Blade in M390 Böhler steel
L'Éclair's blade uses a wharncliffe geometry: a flat spine and an edge that rises in a straight line toward the tip, without a curve. This shape allows precise control of the cutting motion, particularly for straight cuts. It is made from M390 Böhler steel, an Austrian steel with a high carbon and vanadium content, known for its good edge retention and corrosion resistance. Regular sharpening with a ceramic or diamond stone will help maintain this edge over time.
Titanium handle
L'Éclair's handle is made of titanium, with a finish called Lightning pattern, achieved through a surface treatment that creates lightning-like reflections on the metal. Titanium is a lightweight, corrosion-resistant material, which allows for a thin handle without compromising strength.
Slip joint lock
L'Éclair opens and closes via a slip joint mechanism: the blade is held open by the tension of an internal spring, with no latch to operate. This is a system inherited from traditional pocket knives, more discreet in use than a locking mechanism.
